The Operation Analyst/Tableau Developer is key to this process, providing leadership and expertise within IN DCS. They develop extensive knowledge of a particular data domain (division of DCS) and can move between areas with ease to tackle problems and offer solutions. They are driven by asking “why”, yet develop a deep understanding of “how” the organization and its partners operate. Our team members see problems and create solutions that better the organization. They are contributors to the DCS data community and the agency overall.
The Operation Analyst/Tableau Developer also plays a key role by creating engaging visualizations to succinctly display accurate, meaningful information that empowers internal DCS information users and outside partners to better serve their populations and the Hoosier community. This position reports to the Data and Analytics Manager.
A Day in the Life:
• Responsible for supporting a portfolio of data domains to identify and implement continuous ideas for visualizing data for self-service analytics
• Own/lead data and analytics projects
• Support other Data Analysis team members on meeting goals and delivering results on statewide data initiatives
• Foster a positive feedback culture and utilize feedback to offer guidance and support to team members
• Participate in community data events and share knowledge / experience with others in the field
• Monitor and manage agency success metrics and create enhancement plans as needed, outlining targeted strategies on how to increase agency performance and support DCS executive set metrics to deliver great government service
• Proactively identify agency challenges and work cross-functionally to diagnose, recommend, and implement solutions
• Coordinate with key business stakeholders to understand their analytical and operational challenges
• Determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples
• Collaborate with other BI professionals and data engineers around data/table structures to optimize dashboards and other self-service needs
• Prioritize requirements and create prototypes for end users, (examples of end users are peer groups, field staff, data governance officers, or executive DCS leadership)
• Work closely with end users to gather requirements and translate them into effective/meaningful visual reporting tools
• Design, develop, and format polished data visualizations (reports and dashboards) to support generated user stories
• Present data in a fashion that is easy to understand with proper documentation and user testing for successful adoption
• Publish workbooks to appropriate QA, production, and public servers
• Provide end user education for interpretation of business data
• Provide maintenance and support for production products
• Look for opportunities to improve current processes or find efficiencies by applying industry best practices as a BI professional
• Maintain a high degree of customer satisfaction through the implementation, investigation, analysis, training, and relationship building efforts
